Male Breast Reduction Surgery
The condition of "Gynecomastia" can cause significant embarrassment for the male patient. Unkindly known as "man boobs", this refers to the presence of enlarged or over-developed breasts.
This can be hereditary or the result of hormones, or may be as a result of illness or certain drugs. It may be exaggerated if the patient puts on weight or loses weight and may affect one or both of the breasts.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
What happens during surgery?
Plastic surgery to correct over-large male breasts involves liposculpture to remove excess fat and (as required) removal of excess skin to create a smooth, sleek and manly profile.
How is the procedure carried out?
The procedure is normally carried out under General Anaesthetic and you will stay 1-2 nights in hospital before you return home.
Will there be scars?
A good cosmetic surgeon will work hard to minimise visible scarring by trying to conceal it in natural body folds where possible. Some scarring will be visible and all scars are permanent, but they do fade with time. Scarring can take around a year to fade from red to white. However, although you have to wait for scars to fade, the improvement in your body shape under clothing will be practically immediate.
