What are the risks for Breast Reduction

Surgery?

The main reason for a Breast Reduction or Reduction Mammoplasty is that an over-generous bust size can often be distressing or uncomfortable, often causing significant back or shoulder pain.

What is Involved?

*All breast surgery is performed under general anaesthetic and will require an overnight stage in hospital

*The operation involves excess tissue being removed and the breast itself reshaped. The surgeon lifts the breast tissue and the nipple into a higher, more youthful position and removes excess skin and tissue to reduce the size of the breast.

* An elastic bandage over a gauze dressing must be worn after surgery

* Complications after breast reduction surgery are not common but when they occur they are mostly a temporary nuisance rather than having a long term consequence. For more information please email us on Breast Reduction

* Alteration in nipple sensation is pretty common in the short term with patients. In the vast majority of patients this improves as the operation is designed to preserve some nerve supply which allows sensation to return.

* Breast reduction surgery does leave scars on the breasts around the nipple and a vertical scar. Scarring will usually improve gradually over several months. For more information please email us on Breast Reduction
