What does teeth whitening involve?
Professional bleaching is the most effective way of tooth whitening whilst leaving your teeth untouched. A rubber shield or gel will be put on your gums to protect them, and then the whitening product will be applied using a specially designed tray which fits into your mouth.
How long does it take?
The total treatment can usually be done within 2 weeks. You will need to have around 3 visits to the dentist before the whitening takes place. The results are instant.
How much does dental teeth whitening cost?
The home whitening kits start from £195. The chairside teeth whitening starts from £395. Combination pacakages are also available.
Are there any side effects?
Teeth can become sensitive to the cold during or after treatment. Some people can suffer from discomfort around the gums, a sore throat or white patches on the gums. These are all usually temporary and should disappear within a few days of treatment.
Can a single tooth which has been filled be whitened?
A dead tooth which has been discoloured after root filling can have the canal reopened with the whitening product working from the inside which will whiten the tooth.
Are there times when teeth whitening can’t be used?
Dental tooth whitening will only work on natural teeth and can only whiten the colour of your teeth, for other issues please speak to your dentist.
How should I look after my teeth after whitening?
Normal dental hygiene should be followed in order to keep your teeth in top condition. Also, try to cut down on the amount of food and drink which stain the teeth. This will not preserve the teeth but maintain the whiteness for as long as possible.
How long do the effects last?
Dental tooth whitening can last for 2 to 3 years and even longer in some patients. This does vary a lot depending on the patient having drinks which can stain, or if the patient smokes.
Is it safe?
The hydrogen peroxide gel doesn’t cause any damage or harm to your teeth, gums or fillings. The treatment is completely safe and does not cause any discomfort.
