A year on, Sharon’s life has completely changed for the better with a striking transformation! Weighing in at only 11 stone (her original weight was 19 stone), the effect of weight loss on her life has been profound – ending long periods of dangerously high cholesterol, comfort eating and endless weight gain. Unable to conceive another child due to her weight, she is delighted to say that she is now pregnant thanks to the band. An inspiration to other women, Sharon commented, “Surgery is not for everyone, but for many it is a life-line. I was literally a time bomb - a heart attack waiting to happen. Weight loss is hard but you have to take control. Surgery has given me back my life. Before my gastric band surgery I was too embarrassed to see old friends, I wouldn’t go on holiday and avoided swimming pools at all costs!”. More on weight loss surgery
She previously tried every form of dieting, with limited success. Sharon decided to consider surgery after a suspected stroke, the two paramedics were unable to lift the stretcher Sharon was on. Although the scare was not as serious as a stroke, Sharon was diagnosed with dangerously high cholesterol levels, therefore she opted to have the Gastric Band fitted. Now a year later, Sharon is fighting fit, extremely active and regularly taking her son swimming. She can now control her eating habits, instead of her eating habits controlling her.
People’s reaction has been incredible to the new slim-lined Sharon. “Before surgery I could only shop at Evans – now the world is my oyster. I can shop anywhere, and surgery has given me a renewed interest in clothes”.
